Gameplay Summary

Shifty Shroud is a 2D level-based top-down puzzle game. The player can control both a mouse and big mice. The mouse can only travel along a set path and must reach the end of that path, represented by a slice of cheese, to complete the level. The big mice can be used in a variety of ways to help the mouse reach the end of the path safely. Obstacles will include things such as: static lasers that block the mouse’s path and security cats that will send big mice back to their starting positions or fail the level if the mouse is caught in them. The player must learn how to use the mouse and big mice together in order to get past all the obstacles and clear the 5 levels of the game.

My Overview of The Project

I worked on this project with 2 other designers, and we were tasked by the teacher (who was acting as a client) with designing a "stealth game" the criteria was pretty open and we were allowed to create any kind of game so long as it fit within the stealth genre. After some brainstorming with the others, we decided on creating a stealth puzzle game as the idea of designing puzzle levels where you couldn't be detected intrigued us. The project went very well, and I am proud of how it turned out. I believe that the highlight of the project was how well the team problem solved and overcame the goals set by the client. For context, we would have meetings with the client periodically each week and would discuss the progress of the game as well as what changes they thought needed to be made. Some of these changes drastically altered our plans, however our team worked to overcome this challenge by adapting and being flexible with our ideas. Communication was key in this area, and I believe that on the whole, we did well in ensuring everyone knew what had to be done and what changes were being made.
